Going to view homes for sale can end up being a lot to take in, especially when you're viewing multiple houses back-to-back. You may be so busy looking at the beautiful chef's kitchen that you don't notice that the house doesn't have a front closet at all.

Here are 5 things you don't want to forget about when checking out homes for sale:

1. Are the Neighbours Keeping Up with Regular Maintenance?

As you're driving up to the house, check out the neighbouring houses to see if their walks are shovelled or their lawns are mowed. Does it look like the exterior fo the other homes are being taken care of? Neighbourhoods develop a great feeling when the people in that community value being there and show the capacity to care for their property. Be cautious of places where more than a third of the neighbouring properties look like they require maintenance or aren't well kept.

2. Check Your Phone Signal

Make sure to check your network signal on your cell phone both outside and inside the house. Being connected can be about convenience but is also tied to security, and some peoples work. Missed calls and messages can be a huge frustration. Make sure you know your connection before you buy!

3. Consider Exposure

The direction your house faces affects how much natural light you will get in your backyard and coming in through the windows throughout the day. Remember that the direction of exposure on the listing is for the front of the house, so if it's north-facing, the backyard will get more light being that it's south. Houses that face east are also considered more desirable as the backyard gets the afternoon sun just in time to fire up the BBQ!

4. Storage Spaces

When walking around the house, take notice of the storage spaces throughout. Take a peek at the following and judge whether it would be enough room to acommodate your belongings:

  • Linen Closets

  • Pantry

  • Garage Storage

  • Coat Closets

  • Cabinets and Drawers

  • Cleaning/Broom Closets

5. Hosting Celebrations or Events

Whether or not you consider yourself the "host with the most", inviting your friends and family over for special occasions is part of homeownership. When you're touring houses think of where these common events would take place in your potential picks:

  • Birthday parties

  • Holiday Displays

  • Out of Town Guests

  • Having Company for Dinner

Amazing! The effort put forth towards helping our family find the perfect house for us was unforgettable. The family within HackandCo was committed to excellence and the finished result was nothing short of stellar. Without the leadership from Taylor and the commitment from Kim and all the people behind the scenes I’m not sure this house would be in our possession. Thank you again to the whole team that was apart of this adventure and we will definitely be referring the HackandCo brand to future friends and family. Cheers!
